Second Harvest’s Providence Joins Stock + Grain Assembly in High Point with New Smash & Sizzle Concept
A Community-Focused Collaboration in Support of Second Harvest Food Bank
High Point, NC – Stock + Grain Assembly, the dynamic food hall located in the heart of downtown High Point, is proud to announce the opening of Smash & Sizzle in early May. Smash & Sizzle, a brand-new food concept, will specialize in crave-worthy smashburgers, sizzling sides, and classic American comfort food with a twist—all prepared with purpose.
Smash & Sizzle is a collaboration between Stock + Grain and Second Harvest’s Providence Catering, the award-winning social enterprise of Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC. Core to this collaboration, Providence’s Executive Chefs have developed the unique concept, menus, and recipes for Smash & Sizzle. The Executive Chef’s will also manage the overall operation of the business.
As important, Smash & Sizzle will also provide employment and on-the-job training opportunities for Providence’s culinary students and graduates. “Providing real-life opportunities for our culinary trainees is critical to their development. We expect our graduates to be ready to thrive in the food services industry. This collaboration with Stock + Grain provides the perfect platform for our people,” said Chef Jeff Bacon, Executive Director of Providence.
“We’re excited to welcome Providence to Stock + Grain Assembly,” said Ericka Hickerson, General Manager of Stock + Grain. “Their passion for both people and food is exactly what makes this such a special addition to our community. Smash & Sizzle isn’t just a great eatery—it’s a platform for meaningful change.”
Providence is a program of Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC, focused on addressing food insecurity, workforce development, and poverty in the region. Through its catering and restaurant operations, Providence trains individuals facing challenges to employment, providing skills that lead to lasting careers in the food service industry. A portion of the proceeds from sales at Smash & Sizzle will support Second Harvest’s Providence Culinary Training program.
“Smash & Sizzle represents the next evolution of Providence’s mission-driven work,” said Chef Bacon. “We’re honored to partner with Stock + Grain Assembly and the City of High Point to bring this concept to life—and to do so in a way that continues to nourish both body and soul. While our focus is successfully launching Smash & Sizzle, we believe there is opportunity to do more.”
The arrival of Smash & Sizzle marks a milestone for Stock + Grain Assembly’s growing roster of local, chef-driven eateries, adding a fresh layer of community investment and social innovation to the food hall’s vibrant atmosphere. High Point Mayor, Cyril Jefferson, shares, “We are excited to welcome Stock + Grain Assembly’s new partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank’s Providence team. This innovative concept not only brings fresh, community‑focused dining to our downtown but also creates job training opportunities and career pathways for local residents. It’s partnerships like these that help bolster our Downtown Revitalization efforts—fueling economic growth, fostering social impact, and strengthening the pride we all share in High Point.”
A Grand Opening Celebration is planned for Saturday, June 7, 2025 during Social Saturday in Downtown High Point.
